Meet the members of the Elect from our parish.

They continue with their preparations for

Vision / Tirohanga:
Growing in Faith Together / Oranga i roto i te Whakapono

Goal / Whainga:
To Grow in Awareness as One Parish Family /
Kokiritia te Oranga Kotahitanga o te Whanau Whakapono

St. Mary's Parish, Avondale is a vibrant, multi-cultural and friendly parish.

Our parish logo is 'Growing in Faith Together' and it is with this that we see ourselves not as individuals but as a 'parish family' who come together to worship, to receive and spread The Word of God and more importantly, to receive The Body and Blood of Christ through Holy Communion.

The new encyclical is well worth reading for yourself. Check out the English version at http://w2.vatican.va/…/papa-francesco_20150524_enciclica-la… . If you are lacking ideas on how to respond to the encyclical don't forget our Fit For Mission projects regarding creating your own veggie gardens at home and the new walkway planned through our forest.

Fit for Mission Session with Pat Lythe held in the presbytery on 21 May.

The Parish Council identified four areas of service through which we as a parish want to
reach out to the wider community in the spirit of Fit for Mission.
1. Educating the general public through the formation of an inter-faith community on
the evils of domestic violence.
2. Building of St. Mary's Avondale Community Centre.
3. Creation of a walk-way through the forestry to New Lynn in collaboration with the
City Council.
4. Community gardening to help people to grow their own veges and fruits

/\St Mary's is planning a new centre

We have been talking about building a new community centre.

Through the new facility we aim to reach out to people beyond our parish, to make it a place of gathering, a place of celebration and rejoicing, and a place to grow in friendship with people and God. The beneficiaries of such a centre will certainly be the young people, the various communities that make up our parish, the children in our school, and the wider Avondale Community.

Caption: What will the future look like?

As you know, a Hall Project Committee was set up with representations from various stake holders. There has been the hope that we could get the present hall integrated into the school system. However, the recent communication from the Diocese ruled out the possibility of integration. As a result, the Committee in its April meeting proposed and agreed unanimously that a new terms of reference is required for the committee. It was unanimously resolved that any quorum of the committee will now be making decisions with major decisions being ratified by the Parish Pastoral Council. The preferred name given to the committee is the St Mary's Avondale Community Centre Committee or SMACCC. We are also aware of the state of Te Whau Hall. The Finance Committee is requested to look at the viability of on-going use of the hall until the Community Centre is complete. I request all stakeholders to join hands in realising the Parish vision of a new Community Centre to be built. God bless.

/\Message from the Avondale PPC

Avondale Parish Council reminds us to

read and meditate on daily scripture

Use your bible. There are also many web sites that give you the readings of the day. Below are links to a few. Some will allow you to have daily readings emailed to you, others include reflections.

Picture of the first book mass produced using the Gutenburg press in 1847. It was the Bible.
